I am not sure why they are using the headline vaccine when the real promise here seems to be the ability to use this series of shots as a treatment. I am sure some of you are thinking oh not a series of shots, well compare that to having a surgeon go inside your vagina with scalpels and cutting away chunks of your cervix, or other surgeons / health clinics going in with freezing technology to freeze-burn off warts inside one of your most sensitive areas – and even those people who can afford the laser burn off treatments do not find them to be as comfortable as getting a shot I am sure.

I know several people who have had these kins of surgeries, and it’s not just the pain of the surgery itself, but it’s the months of painful healing, excessive bleeding and not being able to use tampons among other things that make this such a miserable treatment option. One of my good friends was so cut up by doctors that it is too painful for her to have vaginal intercourse, most likely ever again. She still can not take objects inside her uterus, even after two years of healing.

Of course every person is different, every person’s immune system is different, and different doctors are different with their treatments, so I must assume that not all women are butchered and ruined for life after going under the knife for painful HPV. There are also more than 55 types of HPV, and it makes a difference as to your diet, stress levels, smoking, all kinds of things – so don’t think your symptoms of treatment will be like someone else’s. Early detection may be a factor in this as well.

So this story about Dr. Gemma Kenter of the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands is big news in my humble opinion. I hope this blog post will get people to think more about STDs and communicate about them, and also that we can help promote important research and treatments such as this. Of course if you are a female in the right age range you should get the vaccine that prevents many of the HPV strains in the first place – but also know that there are some people out there working on other treatments and we should help them any way we can, relying on vaccines for a small part of the population is not the best way to ensure happy sexual health for everyone.

Odds are one of the next two people you have sex with will have HPV. I do not believe that a condom will prevent it. There is no cure, just like herpes and HIV / AIDS. Please learn more about these issues and share with other adults who are or are considering being sexually active. The health clinic down the road from my place does not even test for HPV or herpes – so someone getting an STD checkup may not even be aware of an infection even if they have been checked for other common sexually transmitted diseases.

I am glad to see so many smart people chiming in about this, and an excellent mature discussion has been created around content, expression, and the attempts to limit expression with new media and technology.

The courts struck down a California law preventing the sale to minors of games involving “killing, maiming, dismembering or sexually assaulting an image of a human being.”

The Supreme Court acknowledged California’s legitimate concern in protecting children, but said the First Amendment sets limits.

Protecting children “does not include a free-floating power to restrict the ideas to which children may be exposed,” Justice Antonin Scalia wrote.

Entertainment is protected by the First Amendment: The Court notes that although video games are primarily intended for entertainment, “we have long recognized that it is difficult to distinguish politics from entertainment, and dangerous to try.”

Sexual and violent content are viewed differently: America has a long tradition of limiting depictions of sexual acts, the Court notes, but has never been as restrictive about violence. “Certainly the books we give children to read — or read to them when they are younger — contain no shortage of gore,” Scalia wrote. “Grimm’s Fairy Tales, for example, are grim indeed.”

States can’t target emerging media: As new technologies are invented, states cannot target them for restriction because of concern about the potential influence on children. In this case, for example, the Court concluded that the interactive nature of video games did not warrant government action any more than a compelling book would.

Disgust alone can’t justify limits: Justice Samuel Alito did some of his own research into video games and shared his findings with his colleagues. “Justice Alito recounts all of these disgusting video games in order to disgust us — but disgust is not a valid basis for restricting expression,” Scalia wrote.

I am glad to see that the courts and other intelligent people are stepping up and stopping the slide down this very slippery slope. Personally, I am not condoning violent video games for adults or children, and I think that parents need to pay more attention to the games and other media that their youngsters consume. Ultimately it is the responsibility of parents to make sure that their kids are not over exposed to any messages in any media. I am glad to see that the supreme court is keeping that responsibility with parents, and keeping the government from censoring what people in America choose to purchase.

This blog is mainly centered around adult choices in expression, ideas, and entertainment, but I am glad to see an article and court decision that gives more rights to those you are not yet 18 as well. There has been little done over the years to fight for the rights on today’s youth, and today’s youth have access to much more information, and opportunity to mature much faster than young people in previous generations. Often times the rights of young people are dismissed, and they are considered largely invisible. The young people today are the voters of tomorrow, and I believe that we will see many more changes in the coming years based upon the adults of today ignoring the rights and maturity of them.

We are already seeing big changes in this country as far as accepting sub culture choices, everything from gay and lesbian rights to the open sharing of classified information and sharing of corporate greed and political scandals. People today are expecting all information to be shared, uncensored, and prefer to discuss issues openly on the internet for the world to see rather than having controversial and disgusting things covered up.

Whether it’s a video game where the player beats up a prostitute, or a real life video showing helicopters killing people, for good or bad, people do not want these things censored by the government. The bill of rights in the constitution paved the way for people in America to discuss whatever they want, and keeps the government from choosing what is good speech and what it bad. It is that free speech that keeps all these talk show hosts and so called news organizations putting out their message, and the messages from the people are not to be censored as well.

I do not agree with the message that many of these video games put out there, and personally a lot of the comedy that sells today on TV and film is rude and in very bad taste. I myself would not have my children consuming much of this media, but I do believe that parents and kids should have the right to choose.

Even if historically we as a country had no problem with violence in entertainment and kind of put our heads in the sand when it comes to sexual information, tomorrows leaders and parents are not going to be so shy about sex.

Sure, whenever someone tries to do some poll about sex there will be whatever half honest answers from people, and those polls will be skewed. Sure in public forums and PTA meetings and in church groups parents may remain quiet as some vocal “leaders” complain about sex on TV or sexual education in schools. However I think the honest truth is that most of today’s generation has no problem with younger people learning about sex, and learning about seduction, and other “adults” situations.

I do not know if there are statistics on how many parents actually use the channel blocking features or internet parent filtering for computers at home, but I imagine that just as there are parents who do not care if their kids are playing grand theft auto, there are plenty of parents who do now mind their kids watching the oversexxed videos that stream across MTV, and probably know that their kids are consuming sexual information from the internet, as well as HBO – and that most parents are not doing anything about it, because they do not see it as being a big deal.

I believe that most parents today had accessed some Playboy, Penthouse or Hustler magazines when they were younger, and would actually rather have their kids gain more knowledge about adult situations before they are pushed out into the adult world. Maybe I am wrong, and maybe there are some stats somewhere that show differently. If anyone has any real stats (not skewed polls) – I’d love to see them.

The revolution of sexual sharing may not be televised – as there will always be some minority groups (not racial, but ideological or something) that put pressure in public forums for broadcast TV to tone it down, and there will be plenty of people who voice their opinion with these people putting pressure on networks and even advertisers to tone it down. However if you look at these groups of people, what percentage of them are filtering the content available at home in the first place?

They may complain publicly about gay sex or teen sex on MTV – but most of them are not blocking MTV, or skin-a-max for that matter. It may be popular as a “mature parent” to sign a facebook petition against too much sex in our media – but what I bet is more popular is what is actually happening in homes all over America, not censoring the sex or violence that is flashing across so many screens every day – and that is what kind of choices free people are making. I only hope that we will have more open and honest discussion about the sex and violence and learn something beyond the messages of comedy and tragedy as entertainment, but also about changing behaviors and no repeating the mistakes that we enjoy watching people make in the news and entertainment of the free world.

I think it is of no surprise that people who are in position of power, or fame, or gets lots of money are often offered lots of sexual gratification from many different women (and men) – and really, I think a majority of America does not really care if you are rich and or powerful if you have sex with multiple people, but doing it when you are on the clock, well that’s not much different than a local public service worker getting caught picking up a hooker in a city owned trick while on the clock.

With most of the world not really caring if you engaging in sex chat, or even slightly adult conversation with people in the virtual world, why abuse the freedom by doing it work? If you can not resist doing it work, then at least keep it just during your lunch break, or clock out first. It’s hard enough to untarnish your image when people find out you have been looking at or sending dirty pictures and messages online, it’s enough tougher if you find yourself without a job.

If you must be in contact with a flirt affair or something at work, do not do it on the company phone, do not use the company computer, and do not leave evidence laying around your desk, the trash can, the water cool, or even other people’s inboxes. Use a different cell phone even! If you look at the details that came out of the Weiner sex scandal, you can clearly see that he did not follow that advice, and everybody should. My suggestion is this, play it safe, don’t have sex at work, even if it’s cyber sex or just cyber flirting.

When you use electronics to do dirty things at work, it’s just like having sex on the copier. Many years ago,  you might be able to get away with that after hours, or during the company holiday party. Back then you could take the copies with you and jerk off to them later, and most bosses wouldn’t freak out if you used up a few cents of the good card stock when you got it on. These days, those digital copiers not only shoot out a copy for you to take home, but they also keep another copy stored on a little hard drive. So if you get caught up in a sex scandal, Lisa in accounting may not even have the hard copies that you took home with you, but she will probably opt to show the dress with the cum stain and get a computer forensic analyst to pull the dirty pics so she can get her 15 minutes of fame, and maybe some cash for showing up on hard copy.

With so many ways of getting caught, it’s just not worth it. Security cameras are everywhere, the person on the other end might have a change of heart when things are not going as well, heck even an ex lover of your flirt interest might hack into her facebook or emails or phone texts and try to expose it to the world simply for revenge.  You never know what will happen. You also can’t count on the technology itself.

Twitter might notify you that your account info has been requested by investigators, but do you think that facebook is going to be able to retrieve and hand out messages and pics? Even deleted ones? You bet your ass they will. Your phone company is storing data on you and so are these other popular phone apps / messaging services as well. So just don’t do it. Save the dirty messaging for after work – heck even dirty messages you send your wife at work can be snooped on by your employer and that geek in the IT department, so keep your dick in your pants and keep it off of twitter – at least until you get home.

others who move up into positions of power and decent money are caught up in sex scandals. I think there should be more said about the woman who engage men that are money and power players as well.

IT seems that our society forgives and expects men of power and money to have sex on the side relations with other women. It’s hardly ever a surprise it seems to find a guy that is banging the hired help on the side (like the governor in Nevada), or hiring prostitutes, or having celebrity sex symbols singing happy birthday to you mr president in front of the whole nation. There is much to be said about the women you suck up to (and suck off) money and power men (sugar daddies are you?) – and the women who tolerate this behavior.

You don’t see thousands of people up in arms about spitzer being on CNN do you (or have we and I missed it?) – Sure politicians are often forced to resign amid a sex scandal, but they often end up with better jobs that offer even more moral flexibility, sometimes with more money (And thus more power and more pussy). I am sure there are some research papers and writings about some of these things, I’d like to put them together here and discuss these issues more in the comments. Feel free to add your thoughts!

Rob Lowe is grateful for the leaked tape that showed him having sex with two women more than 20 years ago

It seems more of a tale about Rob trying to claim the “first celebrity sex tape” or something, and some blurbs about him joking around in his autobiography and in news interviews about wanting credit, or royalties for setting off the multi million dollar celebrity sex tape movement.

Lowe told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday it “was one of the best things that ever happened to me.”

The fallout from the video prompted the former high-flying Hollywood “Brat Packer” to take stock of his life and enter rehab for sex and alcohol addiction.

There have been many sex tapes made with celebrities and non celebrities around the world ever since the first video cameras were available. To say that Rob Lowe was a trailblazer in this media expression, I say it’s more of an issue of our world’s technological state at the time, along with every ones’ tolerance or sexual content in mainstream media. The success of future sex tapes has more to do with worldwide broadband internet distribution.

This worldwide and fast distribution of not just the videos themselves, but also the social / viral messaging use by the masses makes news of sex with well known people spread faster than a new bulletin interrupting an Oprah show. This makes it possible for new adult videos and controversies to spread quickly like wildfire. This may be a good thing for people like Rob, but for many others this quick spread of sexual imagery has cost jobs, relationships and emotional turmoil.

In Bangladesh a popular actress was fired and she went into hiding after a sex tape showing her was released. I think that if she had made a sex tape 20 years ago, then it would not have gotten around to so many people so quickly, and if news did arise of it, it might not even get published – which pretty makes it so that someone making a sex tape 20 years ago really did not have a lot major risk. These days making a sex tape, or even being caught on film for 1/100th of a second with your nipple or pubes showing, and the next day everyone in the world has seen a clip of it and talked about it.

I would like to see mobile STD clinics around town the bar crawl areas, and make STD testing more available to people. If there were mobile units setup and people could pop in on a friday night and get a full STD screening, it would make the world a safer place. I envision a system where you can go in, get a quick blood or urine test or whatever is necessary,  and be given a card with a unique identifier number.

This may be a very popular thing, that needs a good amount of staffing. If people could get a card and verify with possible hookups that they have had a test I think people would do this quite a bit as an avenue for increasing the odds of getting intimate with someone new.  I’d like to see a system where you or your sex interest could phone in, enter in a ID number, and then the system would ask you a few questions, and then provide the details of the test. Maybe provide a positive or negative for STDs with one ID number, and the patient themselves can call in and get the full results.

I imagine there would be many different ways to deploy a system like this. It would be great to have a phone system that would let you punch a few buttons to get more information about certain STDs, and answer some common misconceptions about STD like “you can’t get STDs from oral sex” or something. It would be great if the people in this state would join together and say “add more funding and services to our STD testing facilities. Last I read, Nashville cut their health department budgets by 5%, so I am doubting there is extra money there for adding a mobile testing unit, with some new phone technology, and staff to take blood and run tests to work an extra three nights a week until 3am.

Maybe the people will see this as a major benefit that is sorely needed and things will change. Certainly it’s easier and cheaper to prevent the new drug resistant HIV from spreading, (amongst other currently incurable diseases such as HPV and Herpes), than it is to have to treat these and other illnesses. The main problem I see that that access to the testing it not convenient, nor cool.

I guess it is an opportunity for a big company like durex to sponsor mobile STD tests in cities during weekend night hours. I am not sure what would be involved in having what kind of licensed people for doing the tests and what kind of equipment is needed to actually do the lab work, but if something could be brought together to make it happen, I would be happy to help in some way.

So, if someone donates a tour bus, and someone else donates some condoms, we would need the nurses, lab techs, some counselors perhaps, an advanced phone system and computer system. I am guessing many more things, but it’s a start to throw some ideas out there.

Apparently this company sets up motion detectors inside the house and can give you data about your elderly parents that includes how many times they opened a refrigerator, and how much time was spent in the bathroom. Reading this article at the Christian Science Monitor makes me think that things have gotten a little too technological, when there are more logical solutions. I could see someone going this over bearing route if there was genuine concern about them living okay every day, but I do not think that the average senior is in that much danger, and if so, wouldn’t a nursing home be the wiser decision? Maybe this is a cheaper option, I am not sure, but certainly there are other ways to make life safer and more comfortable.

I know they say the trend is to want to stay at home, and make things work there instead of moving to a retirement community, but personally I would rather have some close friends who keep up with my daily hellos than to have to have an online babysitter watching my every move. Recording data about my bathroom time and refrigerator plundering is not going to do much good for my overall well being. Maybe it would make people happy to know this info, but I would rather have a friend walk over and see for themselves that I am not overeating, and that I am still eating.

Is someone who is keeping on eye on me, and getting paid to care about how my day is going, really going to have my best interest in mind, or are they just getting paid to read some lines? How long before there is a knockoff company that employs some people in India to video chat with me all in the name of  caring. How many people will be reading lines, and how long before those human interactions are replaced by a chat bot from Russia. Certainly that would be better than having an airline traffic controller falling asleep while pretending to care about my safety.

I do look forward to some of the other cool technology that will make senior living better, things like testers in toilets that can instantly tell you if you blood sugar is too high, or you need to cut back on the salt. Personally I hope to find enough real life friends through the sex chat rooms to have some video chat friends who care about me for being not, not because they are getting paid to babysit.

Of course there are plenty of added bonuses with this kind of thing, the motion sensors and video cameras may catch a would be burglar, even if it is your cousin Ed poaching the deviled eggs from the fridge. I wonder if the tele-caregivers will be sharing videos of granny getting it on in the kitchen with the plumber. A period drama about a young man, a duke and royal orgies drew hundreds in Hong Kong to the premiere of the territory’s first 3D erotic film earlier this week.
